What to do during a sunburn?

When ultraviolet rays from the sun affect the skin for prolonged periods, a sunburn can occur. This condition is characterized by redness, burning sensation, pain, and sometimes peeling. It is crucial to adopt protective measures to prevent these undesirable effects. First, avoid being under direct sunlight during peak UV hours, especially after noon. Stay in shade, wear a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and long-sleeved clothing. Also, use a sunscreen with SPF 30–50, and reapply it every 2–3 hours. If a sunburn has already developed, apply cool compresses, aloe vera gel, and soothing lotions. In severe cases (large affected areas, intense peeling, high temperature) it’s essential to consult a dermatologist. During vacations by the sea or lake, the risk of sunburn is particularly high. Children, the elderly, and individuals with sensitive skin are more vulnerable. Protection from sunburn is key for both skin health and beauty.
